Parenting

Parenting-style archetypes, readiness reads, and the honest ones about what your kid probably wishes you'd hear.

About the archetypes

The parenting archetypes here sort families by revealed values rather than stated ones. Every family has stated values (usually on a plaque somewhere) and revealed ones (what actually gets praised, punished, or dropped when the week gets tight). Children learn the revealed set.

The Achievement Family, Kindness Family, Independence Family, and Togetherness Family are the four we keep landing on, and most households are a blend of two. Naming which one is dominant in yours isn't a judgment. It's the first useful step in deciding whether the priorities you thought you were transmitting are the ones that actually landed.
